In tests, time expressions are essential so as to help test takers choose the correct answer choice. Here I will explain to you those which are usually used in Present Simple Tense.
To better understand what I have said look at this example:
1. Once a year, she ..........her grandparents in Siem Reap.
A. visits B. is visiting
In this example, A is the correct answer because the phrase in blue type tells us that the action takes place on a regular basis. Learners had better remember the uses of each tense in order to choose an appropriate tense.
@ Here are the time expressions:
day
Saturday...
weekend
week
month
Every season
year
time I see her
...
a day
a week
Once/two times... a month
a year
Mondays (=every Monday)
Tuesdays
On Wednesdays
Thursdays
Fridays
Saturdays
@ Adverbs of frequency are usually used in Present Simple, too.
Always Usually/normally often rarely/seldom hardly ever never
Ex: She normally cooks fish for her dinner.
- Note: very often we use Present Simple with these adverbs of frequency.
Look at this example:
1. After dinner, Charya usually ................... her homework and then she goes to bed.
A. did B. is doing C. does
In this example, C is the correct answer-the present simple tense.
@Adverbs that show routines such as daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and annually are also used in Present Simple Tense.
