After you have learnt about the form and use of present continuous tense, here I will present you to the spelling rule of verbs + ING.There are some changes when we add "- ING" to the verbs.

Look at this table to get to know what the base verb is. There are three columns in the table of verbs. The first column presents the base verbs.

2. Verbs that end in -e,drop the -e and add -ING.
Ex: come-coming
drive-driving
take-taking
Note: in this aspect,except verbs ending in -ee. We just add "-ING" to the verbs.
Ex: see- seeing
flee-fleeing
agree-agreeing
3. One-syllable verbs which end in a vowel and a consonant; double the last consonant and add -ING.
Ex: run -running
stop-stopping
swim-swimming
Note: We do not double the last consonant if the verbs ending in a vowel + -x,-w,and -y.
Ex: fix-fixing
play-playing
show-show
Ex: run -running

4. Verbs that end in -ie change the -ie to y and add -ING.
